Privacy policy

Effective October 29, 2026 · Last updated October 30, 2026

The short version. Parent Radar works on your iPhone. Your school logins are kept on your phone, and your kids' grades and your calendars are read there. Parent Radar never reads your email. If you choose Google for your kids' calendars, it asks Google for one narrow permission: to make those calendars and manage the events on them. It cannot see your other calendars or anything else in your Google account. Two things leave your phone and pass through our server without being stored: the daily texts, which can name grades, assignments and calendar events, on their way to your family's phones, and the words of school posts, on their way to be read for dates. Our server keeps the phone numbers your family's texts go to and the consent for each, plus random IDs with no names. We do not sell data, show ads, or use your family's information to train AI.

Who we are

Parent Radar is made by Plumworth LLC, an Illinois company, 948 Crescent Boulevard, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Contact us at hello@plumworth.com. Parent Radar is for parents and guardians in the United States. Using it also means agreeing to our terms of use.

What Parent Radar handles, and where it stays

InformationWhyWhere it is kept
Your school gradebook sign-inTo check grades and missing workOnly in your iPhone's Keychain. Never sent to us.
Grades, assignments, missing workTo write the daily textsRead and kept on your iPhone. The lines a text includes, such as a grade, an assignment that is due or missing, leave your phone inside that text, as set out under "The words of each text" below.
Your ParentSquare sign-inTo read school posts and teacher messagesOnly on your iPhone, in the app's own private sign-in storage, kept out of backups. Never sent to us.
ParentSquare posts and teacher messagesTo find dates, early dismissals and to-dosKept on your iPhone. To pull out dates, each post's sender name, date, subject and words pass through our relay, without being stored, to Anthropic's Claude AI, which does not use them for training. Our relay takes out phone numbers and email addresses written in the usual formats first, and changes nothing else. Other details in a post, including classmates' names, can still reach Anthropic.
Your kids' grade levels, and your school's name and calendar note if you enter themTo sort school posts by kidOn your iPhone. Sent with the posts to Anthropic, as above, with each kid known only by a random code. Your kids' names are not sent, though a post itself may mention one.
Calendars on your iPhone, such as your kids' and teams' calendarsTo include practices, games and eventsRead on your iPhone. An event's title and time leave your phone inside a daily text, as set out under "The words of each text" below.
Your kids' calendars, your school's public calendar, and team calendar links you pasteTo put school dates and team events on each kid's calendarParent Radar makes one calendar for each kid, named like "Maron stuff", on your iPhone (iCloud) or in your Google account, whichever you choose, and adds that kid's school dates and team events to it. On your iPhone it reads your family's calendars only so it never adds the same date twice. It fetches your school's public calendar from the district's website, and each team calendar link you paste from the team's own site. If you choose Google, the dates go from your iPhone straight to Google Calendar, never through our server, and Google keeps them like any of your calendars. If you type someone's email to share a kid's calendar, Google lets that person see it and may email them. Each date it adds is marked "Added by Parent Radar", and it only ever changes or removes dates it added.
Kids' first names, history of texts sentTo address and not repeat textsOn your iPhone. A text can include a kid's first name.
Phone numbers of family members who get texts, and the parent's consentTo deliver the textsOn our server, with a random family ID and no names. For each number we also keep the date and time of the consent and which parent gave it, when the welcome text went out, when the number replied JOIN, and the date and time of any STOP or START reply.
A one-time code texted to the parent setting up Parent RadarTo confirm that parent's number is theirsOn our server in scrambled form only, and deleted 10 minutes after it is sent, used or not
A record of each consent, JOIN, STOP, START and removalTo prove we only text people who agreedOn our server, with the phone number and family scrambled with a secret key we keep, so they can't be read without that key, the date and time, and the version of this policy. Kept 4 years after the number is removed or the family deleted, as set out below.
A scrambled code of each number your family has ever added, with when it was sent the JOIN textSo your family sends a number that text only once, even if it is removed and added again, and to count the limit of 8 numbersOn our server, scrambled with the same key, until your family is deleted
A scrambled code of a number and each time it was sent a JOIN textSo no number gets that text more than once a day or 3 times in 30 days, from all families togetherOn our server, scrambled with the same key, for 30 days
Your family's time zoneTo send texts at the right local timesOn our server
A random code for each kid, made on your iPhoneTo send each kid's text to the right groupOn our server. It is not the kid's name and cannot be turned back into one.
Notices waiting for 8 a.m., a code waiting to be used, and counts of recent texts and requestsTo keep our own texts to daytime hours and limit how many go outOn our server. Deleted with your family; counts of requests are kept for 2 days.
The time your app last checked in, how many weekday checks in a row it missed, and a secret key your app uses to sign its requestsTo tell parents if a daily check did not run, and to make sure only your app can send your family's textsOn our server. The key is stored encrypted.
The words of each textTo deliver itA text can include grades, assignments that are due or missing, school dates and the titles and times of calendar events. It passes through our server and our text-message provider, Twilio, on the way to your family's own numbers. We do not store it, and Twilio's copy is deleted after delivery.
Replies to our textsTo honor STOP, START, JOIN and HELPSTOP, START, JOIN and HELP, and the other STOP words below, are the keywords. We act only on a reply that is one of those keywords. Every other reply is discarded: our server does not keep it, and deletes Twilio's copy right away. In a group text, your reply also reaches the others in the group, as with any group text.
Emails you send usTo answer you and help with setupIn our email inbox, only as long as we need it to help you
A calendar makeover requestTo help you set up your calendarThe makeover request is an email you send us yourself, with the calendar account types and answers you chose. A person at Plumworth reads it and, if you go ahead, helps you reorganize your calendar with your permission. Nothing gets deleted without your OK. It is kept like other emails you send us.
A family member's device you add, such as your kid's or the other parent's iPhoneTo show that person their part of Parent RadarIf you add a family member's device, your phone sends that device only the kids you chose, sealed with a key only the two devices have, through Apple's iCloud. Apple stores only the sealed copy, along with a random record name and when it was made and last changed, and cannot read the copy, and neither can we. A kid's device never gets another kid's information or anything meant for parents only. The device you add never signs in to anything and sends nothing back. Removing it stops all updates to that device and deletes the shared copy from iCloud at your phone's next check (right away if your phone is online). The removed device clears what it holds the next time it opens online.

We collect this information from you, the parent, through the app and by email. We do not buy information about you from anyone, and we do not ask your kids for anything. The only things we act on from a kid are a STOP, START, JOIN or HELP reply.

Google Calendar. If you choose Google in Setup, Parent Radar asks for one permission: to make calendars and manage the events on the calendars it made (Google's "calendar.app.created" permission). It cannot read, change or delete any other calendar or anything else in your Google account. Its Google sign-in is kept in your iPhone's Keychain, and nothing from Google reaches our server. Parent Radar's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can remove its access any time in your Google account's security settings, and Delete my family removes the sign-in from your iPhone.

Children

Parent Radar is used by parents. A parent installs the app, sets it up, and gives consent for each child's phone number to receive texts. Children do not create accounts and do not give us information. The only information about a child on our server is a phone number linked to a random ID and its consent record, kept so the parent's chosen texts can be delivered, plus the scrambled records described under "How long we keep things".

A kid sees Parent Radar on their own device only after a parent adds that device with a code from the parent's phone. The app on the kid's device has no account and no sign-in, collects nothing, and sends nothing to us or anyone.

We follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for every child, whatever their age:

School records and student privacy laws

Parent Radar is not a school service. Schools and districts do not use it, pay for it, or send it student records. A parent signs in with their own login to see their own child's records, which the parent already has a right to see. Federal school records law (FERPA) governs what schools share; it does not make Parent Radar part of the school.

Illinois's Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA, 105 ILCS 85) and similar student privacy laws in other states cover services designed and marketed to schools. Parent Radar is designed and marketed to parents, so we do not believe those laws apply to it. We follow their main rules anyway, for any information about a student:

Text messages

Texts go only to numbers a parent adds and consents for, and only after that number replies JOIN to the one text asking it to. A number that has not replied JOIN within 7 days of being added is removed, even if its JOIN text was still waiting to go out. Your family sends a number that text only once, even if it is removed and added again. A number gets that text at most once a day and 3 times in 30 days from all families together; one over that waits and goes out when allowed, unless the 7 days below run out first. If more than one family is waiting for the same number, the reply must be JOIN and the code from that family's text, such as "JOIN K7Q"; a plain JOIN then gets one text listing the choices by those codes only. A family can still add a number that replied STOP, but it gets nothing from Parent Radar until it replies START; then it gets that family's JOIN request. Notes meant only for parents go to a separate text with just the parents, never to a kid. Anyone who replies STOP gets no more texts from that moment. A text to Parent Radar's number that starts with STOP, END, QUIT, CANCEL or UNSUBSCRIBE, such as "Stop texting me", counts as STOP. In a group text, only a reply that is just one of those words, such as "Stop" or "STOP!", counts. START and JOIN count only as the whole reply, such as "Start" or "JOIN K7Q", so "Start the car" does not. Reply START to begin again. If a number replies STOP, we keep a scrambled code made from that number, not the number itself, even after your family's information is deleted, so we never text it again unless it replies START. That code is made with a key we never change, so it keeps working.

The full text message terms are in our terms of use.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent information. We use a text-message provider to deliver texts and a hosting provider to run our relay server; they handle phone numbers and message delivery only on our behalf. School posts from ParentSquare pass through our relay, without being stored, to Anthropic's Claude AI to pull out dates, with phone numbers and email addresses written in the usual formats taken out first; Anthropic does not use them to train its models. We disclose information if the law requires it.

These are the companies that help us run Parent Radar, and what each one gets:

CompanyWhat it does for usWhat it receives
TwilioSends the textsFamily phone numbers, the words of each text (which can include grades, assignments and calendar events), and replies such as STOP, START and JOIN. Our relay deletes Twilio's copy of each text once it is delivered. Twilio may keep basic delivery records under its own rules for billing and phone carriers.
Fly.ioHosts our relay serverEverything our server keeps, listed above, on an encrypted disk in the United States, plus the internet address of your phone when the app connects
CloudflareServes these web pagesThe usual details of a page visit, such as your internet address and browser type
AnthropicReads school posts to pull out datesEach ParentSquare post's sender name, date, subject and words, with phone numbers and email addresses written in the usual formats taken out, plus your kids' grade levels under random codes and your school's name and calendar note if you entered them. No kid names, family IDs or phone numbers of yours, though a post's words can name your kids or other students. Anthropic does not train on them and may keep them only for a limited time under its commercial terms, for safety checks.
AppleDelivers the app through TestFlight and the App StoreWhat Apple collects under its own policy when you install the app. Apple may share with us basic tester details, plus crash reports and feedback if you choose to send them.
Apple iCloudCarries updates to family devices you addSealed copies only, which Apple and we cannot read, stored in Parent Radar's iCloud space and replaced at every check

Each of these companies may use this information only to provide its service to us. If Plumworth is ever merged or sold, your information would move only under this policy, and we would tell you first.

Deleting your information

In the app, Delete my family deletes your family's phone numbers, consent records and random IDs from our server right away, and from our server's backups within 7 days, and erases everything the app kept on your iPhone. If our server does not confirm the delete, because it can't be reached or does not accept the request, the app still erases everything on your iPhone and keeps asking our server to delete your family's records until it confirms. Remove this number deletes one number, though a scrambled code of it stays with your family's records, as set out above. The scrambled records in "How long we keep things" stay for the time set out there. Deleting the app also deletes what it kept on your iPhone; sign-ins that iPhone keeps in its Keychain after an app is deleted are erased the first time the app is opened again. If you delete the app and install it again, the new app deletes your family's records from our server the first time it is opened, and setting up again needs a new invite. You can also email hello@plumworth.com to delete your family's phone numbers from our server, and we will delete them within 7 days, including backups.

Your state privacy rights

Some states, including California, give people rights over their personal information. Whether or not those laws apply to a company our size, we give these rights to every family:

In the terms these laws use, we hold identifiers (phone numbers, random IDs, and your email address if you write to us). Education information (grades and assignments) is kept on your iPhone, and the lines of it a text includes pass through our server without being stored. Our sources are you and the school sites you sign in to on your phone. Our purposes are the ones in the tables above.

To use any of these rights, email hello@plumworth.com from the address you use with us, or write to the address above. You can also ask someone to act for you, with your written permission. We confirm the request comes from you, then answer within 45 days, and usually much sooner. If we say no, we will tell you why and how to appeal, and you can appeal by replying to that email. We will never charge you more, give you less, or treat you differently for using these rights.

Security

Your school sign-in is stored in the iPhone Keychain. Information between the app and our server is encrypted in transit. Our server is designed to hold as little as possible, so there is little to expose.

Every request from the app to our server is signed with a secret key only your app has, and that key is stored encrypted on our server. Kids are known to our server only by random codes. Only signed requests from your family's app can act on your family's information. If that key is ever exposed, we delete your family's records on our server at once, and you set up Parent Radar again in the app. Our service providers protect what they handle under their own security programs.

If something goes wrong

If someone gets into information we hold without permission, we will tell the affected families by email or text without undue delay, and within any time the law requires. We will say what happened, what information was involved, including any information about children, and what we are doing about it. We will also tell government authorities when the law requires it.

Early access list

If you sign up for early access on our website, we keep the email address, name and kids' schools and grades you type in, only to tell you when Parent Radar is ready for you. We don't sell or share the list, and we delete your entry when you ask at hello@myparentradar.com.

This website

These pages set no cookies and load no analytics, ads or tracking tools. Cloudflare, which serves them, keeps standard visit logs and may use a security cookie to block attacks.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date above and tell beta families by text before the change takes effect. If a change would let us use information already collected in a new way, we will ask for your consent first.
